White Man Belittlement, The Matthew Effect, Sand Ivory, Today's Pronouns

Good morning party people! I slept in until 7:00 a.m., the first time I've seen not seen 6:00 a.m. in a long time; my guess is my body and spirit needed some rest. We are heading down the hill to meet our friends for a hike, then a nice lunch; it should be a phenomenal day.

Yesterday I virtually joined my men's group; we got snowed in. Although I would have preferred to participate in person, the virtual world allows those in other geographic locations to join. So yesterday, we had our group in downtown Denver, a member in MX, one in Vail, and I stuck on top of a mountain. The discussion was rich; I'm blessed to be a member of such a unique group.

I wrapped up my group time, worked with a client, and then my wife and I headed down the hill. I had not gotten my testosterone shot for a month, so I needed a little old man juice; I got my shot, some sushi, and we headed back home. I took a 30-minute nap, got up, and played a hand of euchre before getting ready to go out with the family to twin forks.

Twin Forks is an excellent restaurant tucked in the mountains by our house. We've met the owner, she's kind, and the food is mind-blowing. Our family consists of myself, my wife, our daughter, Bay, and Cousin. We dined like kings and queens; I had a Lindsey Lohan Martini (extra dirty), my wife had a cosmo, we took advantage of our daughter being a designated driver.

Cousin had the 2-pound prime rib, I had the 8 oz filets covered in gorgonzola, and blue cheese crumbles served over crispy scalloped potatoes. My wife had the same, Bay had the pork chop, and our daughter got the crusted white fish. It was one of the best meals sans my wife's cooking I've had in a long time. We got home by 7:30, played more euchre, and dove into our bean bags to watch basketball. It was a great day, and I got some of the best sleep of the week. I woke up to a fantastic sunrise; it will be another great day. I am blessed, fortunate, and lucky to live my life, and I don't take a second for granted. Recognition of one's gifts and opportunities is essential.

Tomorrow we have 20 friends joining us at our mountain house for brunch. The menu is set; it will be the first time many of our friends have made it to our home; we are looking forward to a great day of friendship. Bay bought a couple of Karaoke Microphones if we wanted to belt out a few tunes.

My friend Paul just sent me a text from Ricky Gervais, and the quote is, "Please stop saying you can joke about anything anymore." You can; You can joke about whatever you like. And some people won't like it, and they will tell you they don't like it. And then it is up to you wheater you give a fuck or not. And so on. It's a sound system.

We live in a time of sensitivity. Don't say this, don't say that, and as a proponent of free speech, I think we should say what our minds are. I shared yesterday in our men's group that white men were the most belittled group in society. It did not sit well with some, but it's what I see to be true. So if you see something, you should say something and then discourse correct or validate your idea.

During our men's meeting, the concept of the Matthew Effect was discussed. I had forgotten this teaching from my youth. Christ shared, "for to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away." When was the last time you were in a conversation when such a heavy idea or topic was discussed? Some might interpret the passage as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, but I tend to lean on the side that those who work hard will be rewarded, and those who choose a path of laziness will be doomed to fail.

Well, I think that does it for this 52-year-old white guy. So those are my thoughts, ideas, a logical interpretation of my view of society today. I hope this is helpful, and if not, well, there are many other humans you can choose to follow; I've not for everyone, and neither are you.
