In This Life…
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go...”
— Dr. Seuss (Oh, the Places You’ll Go!)
Well, good morning friends, how did you sleep? I slept well, as did my Queen, the coffee is made, and JoQueen is by my side. This will be a good day. How did I know it will be a good day? Because I’m in control of my days, I get to decide, and here is a secret, you do too. I chat with many folks; people will say I’m having a horrible day, and I always think, “that’s on you.” You must remember life ebbs and flows, and to gain enlightenment, you must enjoy both. There is a teachable lesson in every moment, become a student of life.
This weekend was a blast; Friday, we went to my friend Pauls and watched a live band. We came home and snuggled with each other. Saturday, we worked to get our house “show ready” and then hosted about 30 of our good friends. Sunday, my family came over, and we listened to the race. Yesterday my Queen was packing her Indy to CO belongings; I removed the 100 or so albums I’ll be taking west. We work today, tomorrow, and then start our journey. We used Furkot.com to find our Air B and B’s; both places look stunning and fun, both are about $100.00 a night.
We will arrive home on Saturday afternoon, unpack and then settle back into mountain life for a few months. As a kid, I dreamt of a lake in northern Indiana; little did I know my lake place would take me 1200 miles from home, and there would be no lake. My sister, her husband, my Queen, and I spent a few hours on Sunday night catching up. We’ve been busy; our two times a year trips to Mexico have been prevented due to the pandemic, them selling their dental practice, and we had some catching up to do.
They now have a home in Key Largo, FL. I shared it’s a beautiful home, but not my jam. I like to visit but could not see us ever having a home in that area. My sister shared she felt the same about our mountain home; she has one leg, our hiking passion is not a good fit for her body composition. We are both thrilled with our choices and have a nice place to visit when needed to get away. They just bought a new boat, a large fishing boat that can take them across the ocean if they want; I think it will be used for fishing and maybe running drugs. Kidding, they won’t run drugs, but they could if they wanted.
My family used to run moonshine in Tennessee a few generations ago; we have to outlaw DNA. I’m sure you do too, but most don’t like to share the blight of their past. The spectacle of our days gone by made us who we are; we lean into the darkness. But with dark comes light, and today our lives are filled with bright lights; we’ve got a story we can talk about.
I’m having lunch with Don and Matt today, two of my friends, I’ve not been able to connect with them, but we will meet and possibly change the world. I’m meeting another couple of young men, both musicians, artists for a drink at 4:30. It will be a full day; I’ve got some clean-up to do; I always have clean-up to do. I would guess you do as well; make sure you clean up any mess you make, and God knows we all make messes.
So you had a three-day weekend, your batteries are charged, or I should say, they should be charged. We took it easy yesterday; I’m ready to kick some ass and help move our company forward. We had an off week last week, but we killed the week before; as of last month, we were 102% to goal, I’m happy about our efforts, but we can’t slow down now that summer is here; it’s time to double down on our actions.
A little announcement, I have started my novel, my fiction-based story that is part history, reality, some characters you will know and some you will not. My inspiration comes from the multiverse idea, where anything is possible based on the choices you make. Is it possible there is an infinite number of “you’s” out there living in different parts of the world with other lovers, kids, pets, and experiences?
What if Tom Petty did not take that final dose of ketamine? What if Prince had dinner with his family instead of taking that last injection of what killed his royal highness. What if Princess Diana decided to visit her sons the night of her death. How would be world be different? That is the basis of my book, none of these folks are featured, but you get the idea, one wrong choice can change your life, but the focus is on the good decisions we can make.
Imagine if you decided not to go to college and instead became a trades worker. Or, if you work in the trades, imagine your choice to attend college and then view your life through that prism. I’m sure you can think back to a time in your life where you decided to go right instead of left, reframe your life based on the idea you chose left. It opens up many possibilities. In this life, fill in the blanks.
Enough, I must shower, I must sing my granddaughter a song. I think I shared, but if I didn’t, let me do tell. I bought the book Oh the Places You’ll Go, from Dr. Seuss. I play my guitar and read a single page from the book; it’s one way this far away Grandson keeps in touch with his M and M. Once complete, I’ll stitch them all together and into a movie, each segment is one minute long, I do this for a reason. It’s a good idea to connect with your grandbabies if you are a far-away grandparent. Oh, the places you go, but only if you make the best choices.
