DNA Results, A Death Rate of .00000077, Good News, Us and Them

Greetings from a mountain top, 6:36 a.m. here, hazy; we are getting a lot of moisture this summer, it’s suitable for the water table. I’ve never seen it so green here, it’s beautiful, and the wildflowers are dotting every landscape.
We got the results from Parker Van Halen’s DNA test. I’ll start with saying she is a lot of things. Our little pup includes a cattle dog, lab, terrier, chow, American pit bull, poodle, and some other dog breed I had never heard. It’s similar to my DNA test; I’ve got many breeds in me; I’m about as mutt as you can get, as is our pup.
As of the writing of these words, the little lady is snuggled up with my wife; I suspect them to join me in the next 30 minutes. I made some extra strong coffee; the fireplace is kicking out some heat, my bean bag writing chair is in perfect form, our garden continues to grow.
Slow news day yesterday; I saw some story about the Love Governor of New York, not sure what happened. I remember during the Kavanah hearings when he was a believe all-women advocate. Now, believe all women, but not the eleven that accused him of inappropriate behavior. Rules for thee, but not for me. It will be interesting to watch that play out.
As I prognosticated yesterday, the most excellent mayor in the history of mayorship Lori Lightfoot announced yesterday that you must wear a mask in Chicago if you are over two years old. Your vaccination status does not matter. Have you ever tried to put a mask on a three-year-old? I have not, but I think I’d instead solve a Rubix cube than attempt that magical feat. I feel sorry for my friends and family in the Chicago land area.
I like to look at the average 7-day rolling death count. In a city of 2.6 million, the average death rate per day is waiting for it, “2”. I wish Miss Lightfoot would check the stats on murders. The death rate from COVID is .00000077. More people are murdered in Chicago than dying from COVID, yet kabuki theater shall commence.
The eviction moratorium ended, landlords could now expect their tenants to begin paying the rent and back rent that was waived due to the pandemic. But, unfortunately, Congress did not act, nor did the executive branch, so our friends at the CDC, by the power invested in them from God only knows has extended it, but it won’t hold; the courts have already ruled it an overstep of the CDC’s authority.
According to Fox News: there was an official ruling on this in May from U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich. He said the CDC acted outside the scope of its authority when it previously issued the moratorium. However, that order was put on hold pending an appeal of the decision, and while the Supreme Court denied a request to vacate the stay on the ruling, it was only because it was already set to expire on July 31. You can find the same story on CNN, MSNBC, and NBC for those who hate Fox News.
Do we have any good news? Why yes, yes we do. The vaccine is working; if you have it, you are protected, the death rate is lower for COVID than many other ailments, but still, the media want to scare the living hell out of you. For example, I caught a story about the band’s drummer of “The Offspring” that because of a previous medical condition, he cannot get the vaccine, his bandmates kicked him out of the band.
We are dangerously moving toward a society of them and us. New York, what a fantastic city these days, has demanded that the vaccinated get to do fun stuff, and if you are not vaccinated, you can’t live an equal life. Can we address the people that for some reason, can’t get the vac? What do we do with those poor souls? If I were in this camp, I would call the transgender community and ask how such a small segment of the population can drive so much squeak and love. Then use their playbook and become a protected class.
Do you want more good news? Somewhere in the country yesterday, many people did something kind for another human. You won’t see this on the information; if it bleeds, it leads. On my way to lunch yesterday, I stopped by Costco to get some Nicorette gum. As I got out of the Forerunner, I noticed a young man trying to get in his car. Now I’m not NPR so that I won’t reveal the color of this man’s skin; it’s not material to this story. But I said, do you need some help? Did you lock your keys in your car? He said, “yes, I’m not sure what to do? “ I asked, “is your phone in the truck? I can call a locksmith; he said he had his phone and would call his wife to get the second set of keys. Always be on the lookout for those in need and do what you can.
Do you want more good news? You didn’t die yesterday, and I suspect you won’t die today or anytime soon. So don’t believe the hype; you have a long life of freedom and personal growth ahead of you. But it is incumbent on you to make good choices, take care of your body and mind, and seek love. It’s out there, I promise; I found it, and so have many others in my circle of friends. Love is real, it exists, and if you are looking for love, maybe you are looking in the wrong places? So instead of looking for love, first find the truth, and then love will follow.
