“Your body is a Temple. You are what you eat. Do not eat processed food, junk foods, filth, disease-carrying food, animals, or rodents. Some people say of these foods, ‘well, it tastes good. Today, most of the foods today that statically cause sickness, cancer, and disease ALL TATSE GOOD; it’s well seasoned and prepared poison. THIS IS WHY SO MANY PEOPLE ARE SICK; mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, because of being hooked to the ‘taste’ of poison, instead of being hooked on the truth and to natural foods that heal and provide you with good health and wellness. Respect and honor your Temple- and it will honor you.”

Dateline Memorial Day 2021, the pandemic is over, people are now coming back to reality, my queen is asleep, my sister and her husband are in the carriage house, and I’m sitting beside a cat named Joqueen.  The coffee is made, the dog is outside, it’s time to begin again.

We had our family over yesterday; first up was my best friend and his niece Greg G and Jenna.  My sister and her husband stay the weekend; they were here.  My father had chosen to stay Saturday night as well.   My mom and daughter and her husband showed up with my daughter giving me the best gift ever.  What is the best gift ever?  Home-made Chex mix!

We have a family tradition of watching or listening to the Indy 500; this year, the race was broadcast live. Usually, it’s blacked out in Indy due to some weird law from 1933.  But this year, we got to see it live, and wow, the greatest spectacle in racing did not disappoint.

Part of our family tradition is that my father takes the field of drivers, assigns each one of our family one or two drivers; we all pay $3.00, and the winner gets the pot.    I had some side action with Draft Kings; I picked the second through the sixth driver to finish in the top five, I won $6.00.  Ken, my brother-in-law and newly retired, won the pot of gold.

Everyone left; my Queen, one-legged sister, and Ken and I sat outside and sipped wine into the wee hours of the morning.  Well, wee hours for us is like 9:00 p.m., but we caught up, and I slept like a rock.  Today, it’s a chill day, getting our house ready to Air B and B, loading the car to get ready for our 1187 mile trip west.

Three hundred words into this soup, and I don’t know where this is going.  I just recapped my day, something I do routinely, but this is the point where I get to decide where I’m going to drive.  Do I choose a societal issue, grinding my gears, or do I try and inspire those who sign up for my Substack?  It seems those are now my three veins; I choose to stick my needle.

Let’s go for inspiration, shall we?  My best friend is a gay drug addict. How’s that for a start?  I knew growing up that Greg was gay; he hid it well, got married, lived his lie, but soon came out and began living his actual life, being his true self.  He became very successful selling medical devices, moved to Miami, and became super gay.  He had a cape, would regularly swim naked at his friend’s parties; 30 years of suppressing one’s true self has consequences.

He began using drugs, cocaine, meth; you name it, my friend did it.  I saw him a few years ago; my handsome friend had been decimated.  He weighed maybe 130 from his average weight of 180; he is 6 foot tall; I knew that day he would die.  I called him and asked, “if you had a friend that you knew was in trouble, what would you do?” He replied, “just check on them occasionally.”

I did, but it was not me that changed his life; it was he who made the fateful decision.  He drove to Alabama to die; he had decided that this life was not fit for him, time to move on.  But he watched a sunrise and made a declaration to something bigger than himself; he packed up some of his possessions and headed west.  Using a mix of spiritual guidance, youtube, and various thought leaders, he decided to get clean.

He quit drugs, he no longer drinks, he’s on a quest to help others.  He now has a coaching business that focuses on gay men.  He helps heterosexuals as well, but his niche is gay addicts.  He knows what it’s like and has a therapy created by himself to help those like him seeking to become better human beings.

His father and I share a birthday; he is in town to celebrate his father’s trip around the sun.  We sat in my courtyard yesterday, and he shared his new teachings; he’s got spunk, he is positioned to help the next generation of folks that need to understand why they do what they do.  Think mental health and then put some pepper on it; Greg has a program to help those lost seeking to be found.

If you have an issue, maybe you drink too much, perhaps you love meth, crack, or heroin.  Message me, and I’ll connect you with the cure to what ails you.  There is no crime in getting help; maybe this is the message you have been waiting for; help is here; you have to choose to accept it.

I think we all have demons and dragons, things that prevent us from being our best selves.  I have work to do, and I suspect you do as well.  I don’t know you, you don’t know me, but let’s agree we will begin working to be our best version of ourselves?

What does the best You resemble?  You can only answer that, but I suspect you can improve on this memorial day, and I’m asking that you declare that today is the day you begin your journey to the best You.  Play more guitar, read more, teach more, move more, eat better, get the deal of the century complete before the end of the year.  That’s a little bit of my recipe.; what’s yours?
