A Limitless Accumulation of the Imperfect
"A certain type of perfection can only be realized through a limitless accumulation of the imperfect."
— Haruki Murakami
Hello Friday, you always seem so happy; welcome, let me take your beret and scarf, the coffee is on the counter; join me while I share some misguided logic, thoughts, and ideas. After two days of class, I'm ready to get back to work and push a few balls forward. The course was good; I enjoyed the topic, agency management; I took my first class 30 years ago, this was the same class, but the material had changed a little.
Cousin arrived about 1:30; he came in town for our wedding anniversary. Bay is here as well; Bay was my best man, if you remember. Our daughter will be joining us as well. Sunday marks our first year of wedding bliss, although we've been together a little longer. Last year we got 3 feet of snow; this year, the forecast for Sunday is sunny and 51. As of the writing of these words, it's officially 1 degree outside, but the sun is coming up; we will hit 30 later today and 50 tomorrow.
I've got a leadership call from 8:00 to 9:00. I'm joining a friend on her podcast. I have lunch with about 15 of my friends, and then I've got an appointment to work with an adjuster on one of our claims. I'll wind up my day about 4:00; I'm not sure about our plans this weekend; I see a couple of hikes in our future, some fun, food, and laughter.
War is raging in Ukraine, I'm a part of an international business peer group, and I reached out to leadership to see if we had any members in Ukraine. Unfortunately, we do not; I thought it might be interesting to get a first-hand account of what they are experiencing. Today I read 2.5 million people have fled; cluster bombs are being used; I thought humanity had dispensed with war, I was wrong.
I've shared my society solution before, and I'd like to share it again. My thought is that after graduating high school, you have two options, you can enlist in the military, or you can join something like green peace or a peaceful organization working to help bring peace in our world. These two gap years would help bring clarity to the young men and women; they would learn discipline and new social skills before deciding if they wanted to further their education, start a business, or learn a trade.
What do you think? A good idea? We need more discipline in our society; personal responsibility is no longer valued, it seems victimhood is now the way to get attention. The more you can claim you are a victim; the more society will hold you up as an example of the systemic problems in our world.
Jussie Smollett got sentenced to four months in prison for faking a hate crime. I'm not sure if you remember Jussie; he was attacked by two MAGA Hat wearing men on the way to get a Subway sandwich at 2:30 a.m. it was horrible; they tied a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him, and beat him up. The only problem with the story is that it was 100% fabricated.
But that did not stop many in the media and in the highest levels of government to feign shock and awe about "a modern-day lynching." Once uncovered as a scam, the district attorney dropped all charges letting the man off Scott free. But then an outsider approached the courts and said, "something needs to be done; the man faked a hate crime?" another example of the demand for racism being much greater than the supply. I think it's a fair sentence; let's see how Jussie comes back from this; he might have some gas left in his tank.
My wife just got up; I shared I had to clean up a couple of messes made by my dog at 4:45 a.m. yesterday. She was sick all day yesterday, but this morning got up early, and we think she bounced back. She's jumping around again; I guess dogs get sick like humans. This weekend, we will take her out for our hikes; she will be good as new!
A minor update on my craft water idea, I cannot use our well to produce commercial water, but I have another solution. There is a bottled water company about 10 miles from us, same water, but they have commercial capacity. So my new idea is to approach them, invest in a large can seemer and begin private labeling my craft water. I'm not sure about the investment, but I'm willing to pour a little treasure into this little idea.
Most are not aware; I used to own a home-based winery. My friend Jerry and I made Jerande's wine for four years; we had a vineyard; it was a fun experience, I learned a lot about the making of wine, and occasionally we would make a great batch of wine. I will use this experience to help me navigate my craft water idea. Although, at this point, it's a hobby of an idea, let's see if I can make it a reality.
A friend asked me how much longer I plan on working the other day. I said I plan on working until the day I die. I have multiple streams of income, I'll use those to sustain our lifestyle, but I'm always looking for my next "thing." Maybe water is my next thing; perhaps I'll ramp up my teaching and training company, I have options.
The last two days I got up at 4:45 a.m., this was my life for 20 plus years, I now tend to sleep in until 6:00, but I must say I loved my additional morning time, maybe I'll start getting up before 5:00 occasionally, I got to bed early, there is no reason I can't do a couple of pre 5:00 a.m. days. So my advice to young people who want to succeed is to get up by 5:00 and earn yourself two extra hours to increase your impact.
Well, there you have it a return to my 6:00 a.m. soup, a little longer, more broth than soup, but hey, I'll keep plugging and chugging, and you keep checking in now and then on what my little mountain mind is thinking. There are no limitations in life, only those you believe to be true. Life is limitless, but first, you have to believe it to be true.
